3:AM Top 5: John Porcellino

JohnPorcellino

John Porcellino, creator of King-Cat Comics as well as the acclaimed Diary Of A Mosquito Abatement Man, has been described as “the Ramones of the 1990s minicomics movement”. The autobiographical King-Cat, which takes its name from a Lawrence Ferlinghetti poem, has come a long way from its home-brewed origins in 1989: Drawn & Quarterly have collected the first 50 issues into King-Cat Classix [you can read a review in The Comics Journal]. To celebrate King-Cat Classix—and the original mini, which is still going strong—John tells us he is currently listening to:

1. “Mellow My Mind” - Neil Young
2. “All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down)” - Hank Williams Jr.
3. “Brass In Pocket” - The Pretenders
4. “Siberian Khatru” - Yes
5. “Chapel of Love” - The Dixie Cups
