Dostoevsky's Demons treats ideas, particularly nihilist ones & those that lead to that destination, as malign, almost independent spiritual entities, which take possession of humans, whose agents they become. As is said in Brothers Karamazov, "It was not you who ate the idea, but the idea that ate you."
