LATE NIGHT VISITS<\/b><\/p>\n

Take it to the altar
\nand lay it down
\nsipping homemade
\ncherry wine
\nas your friends
\nprick says, don’t
\nupset the witch
\nshe’s having an
\noff day.
\nInevitable then
\nthe screaming
\ntakes only
\nfive minutes
\nto ensue
\nshe informs
\nshe has a gun
\nclaims my anger
\nmakes me sick
\nher black cat
\ncloses wearied eyes
\nthe room stops
\nsilent, poised
\ntense
\non the brink
\nof no return.<\/p>\n

THE FALL OF THEN<\/b><\/p>\n

I got broke,
\nit was an ugly truth.<\/p>\n

Bloody
\nmessy
\nkind of perfect
\nreally.<\/p>\n

Can’t believe
\nthis skin
\ncontained the wrong
\nso long.<\/p>\n

The pain
\nomnipotent<\/p>\n

all pervasive
\nstench of soul decay
\nbreathe it in deep
\nhyperventilate.<\/p>\n

sit up a tree
\ndisappearing<\/p>\n

those leaves
\nmust fall you know
\nthey’re what feeds
\nthe soil<\/p>\n

it’s all good
\nso get grateful.<\/p>\n

I got broke
\ntook the kind
\nof kick in
\nthat fells empires<\/p>\n

i am not felled<\/p>\n

limping, bloody
\nmessy
\nkind of perfect
\nreally
\nI can’t believe
\nthis skin
\ncontained
\nthe wrong
\nso long.<\/p>\n

THE OTHER NIGHT ONCE AGAIN<\/b><\/p>\n

My teeth fell out<\/p>\n

My heart ran
\nscreaming
\nfor the hills<\/p>\n

A notion
\nwisped by<\/p>\n

I grabbed it,
\nwrung
\nit into a skyscraper<\/p>\n

threw myself
\nfrom the battlements
\nonly to find
\nthat I
\ncan fly.<\/p>\n

\nJenni Fagan<\/b>, 29 years old, is from Edinburgh, Scotland. A former Traverse Theatre young writer, she has had plays read at Edinburgh Festival and Topos Allous Theatre in Athens. She has been published in Catalyst<\/i> and pulp.net<\/i>. She is currently collating a book of short stories and book of poetry called Urchins, Demons, Angels<\/i> which will include these three poems.<\/p>\n
