\/>\nwith anything.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subtraction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was reading a poet<br \/>\nwho felt sorry<br \/>\nfor a bee<br \/>\nhe had killed<\/p>\n<p>I never met him<br \/>\nto ask him<br \/>\nif he ever repented<br \/>\nfor what he had done<\/p>\n<p>one June afternoon<br \/>\njust before a storm<br \/>\nI was on the phone<br \/>\nwhen a bee flew into the room<br \/>\nbuzzing<br \/>\nand bouncing off the glass<br \/>\nfrom time to time<\/p>\n<p>without hanging up<br \/>\nI grabbed a notepad<br \/>\nand on second try<br \/>\nplastered it against the windowpane<\/p>\n<p>then from the kitchen<br \/>\nI took a napkin<br \/>\ncollected the bee<br \/>\nwiped the stains<br \/>\noff the glass<br \/>\ncrumpled it all into a ball<br \/>\nand threw it in the trash can<\/p>\n<p>I finished my conversation<br \/>\nsat in an armchair<br \/>\nand looked out the window<\/p>\n<p>I was thinking about the poet<br \/>\nwho wrote the poem<br \/>\nabout a bee<br \/>\ndarting around his face<br \/>\nas he read the newspaper<\/p>\n<p>and the creative surge<br \/>\nhe must have felt<br \/>\nthen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caf \u00e9 &#8220;Time&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The asphalt tonight<br \/>\nis smoked glass<br \/>\nmaybe footsteps can tell the way.<br \/>\nI missed it once long ago.<\/p>\n<p>And again that teenage<br \/>\nflame catches up with me<br \/>\nand again that<br \/>\nfeeling of flesh on bone.<\/p>\n<p>At Time Caf \u00e9<br \/>\nwhere it all began<br \/>\nhigh school dreams<br \/>\nand slim joints made of sighs.<br \/>\nMy gaze on the moon&#8217;s skin<br \/>\nmakes another bloodless<br \/>\ngroove.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the ropes<br \/>\nin the fiery arena<br \/>\nstand together<br \/>\nex-girlfriends and writer<\/p>\n<p>We were talking about writing<br \/>\nAnd times past<br \/>\nIn which not everything was<br \/>\nSo gloomy<\/p>\n<p>Or it was that<br \/>\nWith every<br \/>\nSuccessive round of crew-cut<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t smoke, he says,<br \/>\nI have asthma<br \/>\nAnd she<br \/>\nBlows some smoke into his face<br \/>\nProbably because of some unsettled accounts<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m He&#8217;s the author of <em>Neon Insomnia<\/em> (Matica Srpska, Novi Sad, 2007). His poems were published in the journals Ulaznica, Gradina, Odgovor, Tema, Ekleksographia, and Esque, and on the internet portal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knjizevnost.org\">www.knjizevnost.org<\/a>. His work was anthologized in <em>Iz muzeja \u00c5\u00a1umova, antologija novije srpske poezije 1988-2008<\/em> edited by Nenad Milo\u00c5\u00a1evi\u00c4\u2021 (VBZ, Zagreb, 2010), and <em>Eintrittskarte, ein Panorama der zeitgen\u00c3\u00b6ssischen serbischen Lyrik<\/em>, edited by Dragoslav Dedovi\u00c4\u2021 (Drava Verlag, 2011), as well as in the anthology of south Serbian poetry <em>Pesni\u00c4\u008dki voz<\/em> (Knjige vranjske, Vranje, 2010). With the American poet Ana Bo\u00c5\u00bei\u00c4\u008devi\u00c4\u2021, he prepared the anthology of contemporary New York poetry <em>Dan kada je umrla Lejdi Gaga\/The Day Lady Gaga Died<\/em> (Peti talas, Ni\u00c5\u00a1, 2011). The poetry of \u00c5\u00bdeljko Miti\u00c4\u2021 draws its influences from Beat poetry, and is marked by an urban, provocative, cinematic sensibility. He is the co-founder and editor of the publishing house &#8216;Peti talas&#8217; (&#8216;The Fifth Wave&#8217;).
