\"hegley.jpg\"I don’t care if it’s not cutting-edge enough for 3:AM<\/strong> scenesters: it’s poetry, and there’s little enough of that around, so it’s worth celebrating. John Hegley<\/a>‘s got a new monthly night<\/a> at the Big Chill House<\/a> in London, with one this week on Thursday 8th, and the next one on March 22nd.<\/p>\n

I think John Hegley is some kind of genius, but I’m easily pleased. Anyway, it’s highly recommended. There’s not much information about what will actually happen on the night, but he’ll probably be talking rubbish, playing the ukelele, and reciting poems like this one, a personal favourite, Very Bad Dog<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n

I took Rover over to the park the other day
\nI met another bloke with another dog on the way
\nhis dog was an alsation
\nmy dog was not
\nhe said is that dog an alsation
\nI said no
\nand he said why don’t you get a proper dog?
\nand I said Rover
\nignore this copper
\nand I pick up a stick
\nand I hold it over Rover
\nand say Rover jump out of the clover
\nand get stuck into the stick
\nand Rover jumps out of the clover
\nand bites me in the arm
\nALARM ALARM
\nmy dog my dog why hast thou mistaken me?
\nI am not calm
\nmy dog has done me harm
\nin my arm
\nI show him the toothmarks
\nsee Rover where the skin is mauver
\nRover sees these nasty marks
\nhe barks
\nand he begs
\nfor forgiveness
