even a corpse may be subject to their furious research.
2
Each character learned of friends murdered, brothers transformed as in folk tales: so the wolf speaks.
3
The heads of the city take a critical view of esoteric societies: a boy directed the stumbling bearer of a so-called grail.
4
Still worldly, the people carry a bottle elevated, blessing the broken colonial cross.
5
In such moods they submit to accident, often wandering in miserable areas, only to find themselves disintegrating in play.

PART III

1
In meditation, these philosophers welcome the humble dead, who tend fires of goods and money, unseen.
2
Artists seldom neglect to work upon the sanctuary of the boss.
3
The famous adventurers make statements on a poster: insolent and drunk, they cannot lead a revolution.
4
No mimics, all such showmen own animals, imitating the brave and the startled in their inept way.
5
The mistrustful dogs are dragged snarling to the marketplace.
6
The collective speaks of the diminishing style of the arts boss: from radiant being to burning animal.
7
The philosophers lack eyes: now the fields are freed of spectacular veiling for them, mastered by idealistic youth.
8
A lazy character, squatting in dignified indifference, may raise such armoured, slow walking revolutionaries.

PART IV

1
Even the crystal may show no image to disturb the ministry of this immobile solitary being with doubt.
2
In darkness, a victim speaks of the complex ruin of an iron castle, rising from the underworld: its bearers are monstrous – initiates who suffer binding in their rebirth, cut and pierced with nails.
3
Even the angel will fault these transmitters of the words of Elohim: a hierarchy consuming mankind in order to become immortal.
4
The ill ones foresee little comfort in untimely secrets, so they shut up.

PART V

1
Some inflexible foresight guided the artisans of a sterile planet.
2
Beset with vexations, they cherish the order apparent in pyramid, spiral and cone.
3
Others acquired glamour in the underworld: their friendship is often ravenous.
4
The young girls in their wrappings of darkness are excluded from the melancholy dwelling of Saturn.
5
Would-be clandestine, their fascination with blindfold and negative identity is represented as spiritual terrorism.
6
In the countryside, birds may be seen feeding on the dreamers.

[Author photo by Paul Lambert]

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Paul Holman has been engaged for some twenty years upon The Memory of the Drift, a shifting but ultimately circular work which is both a record of operations and a process in itself.

1
In their masks and disguises, the idle companions of his table represent him as conversing with serpents.
2
Some imitated lovers: they even created a magical group, seldom laughing.
3
The rest dispense with stories of my beloved: in meditation they gather proverbs from nature.

A new poem from Paul Holman.

[7

post-85303","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-poetry
["GET
