{"id":9141,"date":"2009-05-23T10:54:45","date_gmt":"2009-05-23T10:54:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.3ammagazine.com\/3am\/?p=9141"},"modified":"2021-02-09T17:56:43","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T17:56:43","slug":"get-pspyched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.3ammagazine.com\/3am\/get-pspyched\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Pspyched!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s now 10 years since Beggars Banquet&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beggars.com\/artists\/catalogue\/pspyched\/index.htm\"><em>Pspyched!<\/em><\/a> (spiked) compilation (basically a stab at a <em>Nuggets<\/em> for the Nineties), a good enough excuse to space out your bank holiday weekend and post some tracks from it really.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mQn7jUazYco\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It was often said that Thee Hypnotics were, like their Motor City primary influence, a live band and &#8216;Justice in Freedom&#8217; captures the essence of both. Hit by numerous set-backs in their short career, singer Jim Jones now plays as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimjonesrevue.com\/\">Jim Jones Revue<\/a> and a DVD of their rock and roll excess era is apparently in production.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IO8moQnxra4\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FZlgVHX11I8\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mercury Rev get two nods on the album, both on &#8216;Young Man&#8217;s Stride&#8217; and its last track by departed vocalist David Baker, on there in his Shady guise.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QqL8EVnrPyE\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The band&#8217;s last ever single, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3ammagazine.com\/3am\/\/soundheads-loop-reissued\/\">Loop<\/a>&#8216;s &#8216;Arc-lite&#8217;. The video was filmed at Beckton Gas Works, famously used by Stanley Kubrick as the film set for the Vietnam-based parts of <em>Full Metal Jacket<\/em> (and later for the film adaptation of Ian McEwan&#8217;s <em>The Cement Garden<\/em>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s now 10 years since Beggars Banquet&#8217;s Pspyched!
