A Writer’s Paper

cdnsandburg1Charles Dana saw the newspaper as an art form. He wanted a relevant and timely product, but he also wanted well-written stories. His only rule for the writers he hired was “be interesting.”

One of Dana’s admirer’s was Henry Justin Smith, who also saw the newspaper as an art form – as a daily novel written by a score of Balzacs. Smith was the editor of the Chicago Daily News in 1913 when he began hiring the writers who would write his daily novel. He ended up creating a writers paper and became one of the most prominent figures in the Chicago Literary Renaissance.

Robert O’Connor examines the Chicago Daily News and its literary legacy.

We are Creep

creep550We just did it as a fun side project. We sort of discovered accidentally that we work wonderfully together. When people started to pay attention, that’s sort of when we decided to make it more of a priority. We don’t really buy into any genre. What people label us is up to them. It really comes down to opinions, and we have no control over that. We just make music, that’s it. As long as we write our music and stay true to ourselves, the rest will fall into place. Neither of us let any of that get in our way.
