GOING OVERGROUND
Scarecrow, which my colleague recently described as cultish, is on the verge of going overground. Not content with appearing in Dazed & Confused (more on that later), Lee Rourke's team are launching a paper version of the litzine. They will be drinking, reading and selling the "teething issue" of the journal at The Scarecrow Social Union, a spoken word gig to be held at Smersh Bar (5 Ravey Street, Hoxton & Shoreditch, London EC2A 4QW) on Wednesday 14 September (7.30pm, free):
"Reading on the night will be all the Scarecrow peeps: Lee, Matt, Kailas and perhaps even Steven as well as some favoured guests (read honoured drunks). There will be music too, but not your normal music, but special music fortified with vitamins. Music that takes you by the hand, leads you to the VIP section, expresses an interest in your work, waltzes with you, promises to call you tomorrow AND DOES NOT STEAL YOUR MONEY. That's right we're putting on the music for FREE! That means that you can save your money for strong drink or paying the taxman or both if you have that sort of arrangement (who are we to judge)."
